The Strength of Women 2023
Paintings accepted into:
WORKS OF EXCELLENCE 2023 is a national exhibition highlighting some of the best mid-career and professional visual artists in the country running from April 27 - May 27, 2023 produced by The Studio Door. This is a new take on our popular biennial event 50 To Watch, which was previously postponed due to COVID. The new exhibition is reimagined on a national scale. The exhibition will showcase the best of juried artists' recent body of work without having to fit a specific theme or style.
“THE WITNESS”
Since 2009, I have worked with Afghan women through Bpeace.org (Business Council for Peace). An Afghan businesswoman I hosted in 2012 gave me a flash drive of photos she had taken of women from rural regions. One of those photos inspired this painting. This is 24x24 mixed media on panel.
Afghanistan, Where God Comes to Weep…
Proceeds from this painting will go toward an Afghan families resettlement.

“Finding the Path”
In my dreams I am often traveling somewhere in the half-light between day and night. The expression and imagery is muted and mysterious. Do you find the path or does it find you?
24x24 acrylic on panel.
“Feels Like Hope”
M.A.D.S Art Gallery, Milan Italy Spring 2021
“Donna Fleetwood frees the painting from all preconceived notions and reconstructed forms, emphasizing even more use of the line and the ability to elaborate an image that emerges from the canvas. One perceives a flow that inevitably binds the body of the woman depicted with the surrounding space, creating a spiritual and mystical atmosphere, originated by the synergy of neutral colors that recall the Earth and the swirling and expressive signs.”
Alessia Perone, Senior Art Curator, M.A.D.S Milan
